Freddie Mercury&#8217;s incredible voice and theatrical style, Brian May&#8217;s clean and wailing flanged guitar sounds,\u00a0<em>a capella\u00a0<\/em>vocals, and a band that understands the\u00a0<em>soul<\/em> of rock &#8216;n&#8217; roll. I could go on for pages and pages and still not even scratch the surface of this band&#8217;s legacy.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 348px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/img.ffffound.com\/static-data\/assets\/6\/0193e7a8647c18dbbb0096848891f8d5c9117cc3_m.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"338\" height=\"450\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Damn, but I want that jacket<\/p><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Everybody seems to know and love Queen; I&#8217;ve even seen self-professed homophobes disregard the knowledge of Freddie Mercury&#8217;s sexual preferences because the band rocks\u00a0<em>that<\/em> hard. It&#8217;s the kind of music that transcends genre preferences. I&#8217;ve seen dyed-in-the-wool country music fans get up and sing along to\u00a0<em>Bohemian Rhapsody\u00a0<\/em>at the karaoke bar.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">True to my generation, my first exposure to Queen was thanks to Mike Myers, despite the fact that my father had a couple of Queen albums on vinyl at home.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 588px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.whereseric.com\/sites\/default\/files\/discography-images\/waynes%20world%20soundtrack.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"578\" height=\"567\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Party on<\/p><\/div>\n<p>We owned the album (pictured above), but probably only really paid attention to the first track. Further exposure to Queen was thanks to the Highlander movie, and once a band had its hooks in me like that, a quick trip to Napster often led to a download of a band&#8217;s discography.<\/p>\n<p>So why did I choose &#8216;Hammer to Fall&#8217;? There&#8217;s just something clever about using the cold war as a metaphor for the struggle of life and the inevitability of death.
